Fernando Alonso was born on July 29, 1981, in Oviedo, Asturias, Spain. He began his racing career at the age of 3, competing in go-karting events. By the age of 17, he had won the world championship in go-karts. In 1999, Alonso began his career in Formula One racing with the Minardi team. He raced with Minardi for two years before moving to the Renault team in 2002. In 2005, he won his first Formula One championship with Renault. Alonso left Renault in 2006 to join the McLaren team. He raced with McLaren for one year before returning to Renault in 2007. He won his second Formula One championship with Renault in 2008. In 2009, Alonso joined the Ferrari team. He has raced with Ferrari for nine years. He has won two Formula One championships with Ferrari, in 2010 and 2012.

Alonso's decision to leave F1 at the end of the 2018 season was motivated by a number of factors.
