How did Russell get into F1?

Russell's father had a background in motorsport, and he introduced his son to karting at the age of six. Russell quickly began to show promise, and by the age of eight he was winning races. He continued to progress through the ranks, and in 2013 he won the British Karting Championship. This success led to Russell being signed by the Lotus Formula One team as a development driver. He spent 2014 and 2015 working with the team, and in 2016 he made his Formula One debut as a reserve driver for the team. He continued to work with Lotus in 2017, and he also had a spell as a reserve driver for the Williams team. In 2018, Russell finally got his chance to race in Formula One when he was signed by the Williams team. He scored his first Formula One points at the 2018 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, and he went on to finish the season in 19th place in the drivers' standings. Russell continued to race for Williams in 2019, and he achieved his best Formula One finish to date when he finished in ninth place at the 2019 German Grand Prix.
